Croatia offers visitors a charming blend of old and new. Its emergence as a serious tourism destination since independence from the former Yugoslavia is no surprise. The spirit and friendliness of its citizens, combined with great value, beautiful scenery and over 300 days of sunshine per year make for a wonderful combination.
We have four distinct cycling tours in Croatia, all fully escorted, exploring the shoreline and islands along Croatia's Adriatic coast.
ISLANDS OF KVARNER BAY ISTRIAN PENINSULA
SOUTHERN DALMATIA ISLANDS OF CENTRAL DALMATIA
ISLANDS OF KVARNER BAY
8 day Escorted Tour
Countless islands in crystal clear water, deeply fissured cliffs, picturesque beaches and numerous small bays – that is the Kvarner Bay in the northern Adriatic. Every island is different. Each has its own history. You can spend a week discovering the landscape and people of this unique island-world by bike - independently and with the aid of knowledgeable tour guides.
On a romantic motor yacht - your floating accomodation - discover the charm of the Adriatic in your own special way. You cycle off after a hearty breakfast. At midday meet the ship at a harbour for lunch. In the evening the ship will be waiting in the next harbour, so that you can enjoy fantastic cuisine as the sun sets, followed by a stroll through the historic harbour town. Finally, settle down in your cabin to sleep - or stay on deck under a thousand stars...
Tour Rating - Moderate to hilly in some areas. A good level of fitness is required.
You will also come across some longer and rather steep climbs, where you might have to push your bike. You can skip a bike-tour and spend a day sunbathing on the ship if you wish. You can decide every day for yourself whether you would like to cycle individually, using the maps provided, or join one of the tour guides.
Daily Itinerary

At 1 pm the ship will depart and take you to the island of Cres in about four hours. From the town of Cres you have the possibility either to cycle to the village of Predoscica or to join a little guided tour along the ample harbour bay. In the evening you can take part in a tour through the old town of Cres.
|
 |
Monday: The islands of Cres and Lošinj (approx. 55 km / 34 mi. by bicycle)
Your ship will bring you in the morning to Martinscica. From there you will cycle on the east side of the island among pine, fig and laurel trees to Osor, the artist town, where you will have lunch on the ship.
Afterwards there will be time for a swim in the bay with its crystal clear water. In the afternoon you will leave Osor, crossing over a swing bridge to reach the island of Lošinj. You will cycle along the panorama-route to Mali Lošinj, an old seafaring and health resort. The ship will be waiting for you in the large harbour with its numerous cafés and colourful houses. You will spend the night in the harbour of Mali Lošinj.
Tuesday:
The islands of Lošinj and Molat (approx. 40 km / 25 mi. by bicycle)
Along the seaside walk you cycle to the south of Lošinj and visit the picturesque small harbour of Veli Lošinj before you will meet the ship for lunch. In the afternoon you cross over to the island of Molat, where you will do one more short cycling tour. Overnight stay in the quiet harbour of Molat.
Wednesday:
The island of Dugi Otok (approx. 45 km / 28 mi. by bicycle)
While you have breakfast, the ship will take off and take you past many small islands to the “spice island” of Dugi Otok. Your bike-tour will start in the bay of Bozava, which is surrounded by woods of pine, agave and tamarisk trees, and you will ride on a road nearly free of traffic. In the harbour of Savar you will meet the boat for lunch. While cycling in the afternoon to the fishermen village of Sali you will be impressed by the terrific views on the deep-blue sea and the surrounding islands.
Thursday:
The island of Pag (approx. 35 km / 22 mi. by bicycle)
After a cruise until lunchtime, you will reach the island of Pag. In the harsh but delightful landscape of the island you will come across many fig and olive trees. Over the centuries the inhabitants have built numerous stonewalls for protection against the wind. You will bike on the narrow peninsula until you reach the sea, where the ship will be waiting to take you to Rab. The island of Rab is one of the sunniest places in Europe. The town of Rab, the fortified capital of the island, was built in the middle ages on a wedge-shaped headland, and marks one of the highlights of the trip. The four famous bell towers are the symbol of the adorned beauty of the town. After dinner you can explore the narrow alleys with numerous cosy cafés.
Friday:
The island of Rab (approx. 45 km / 28 mi. by bicycle)
You will bike along the coast to the east side of the island, an area with virtually no vegetation, whose rough and cliffy rocks remind you of alunar landscape. The road will lead you on to a bay with a sandy beach, which is rather atypical for the Kvarner islands. At lunchtime the ship will be waiting for you in the harbour directly in front of the old town of Rab. Afterwards you will be cycling on the green peninsula to the north of the island. In Lopar you will meet your ship again. After a swim-break the ship will take you over to the neighbouring island of Krk, where you will spend the evening in the historical town of Krk.
Saturday:
The island of Krk (approx. 50 km / 31 mi. by bicycle)
You will cycle over the ridge of the island, which is covered by fragrant macchia, to a valley of vineyards, and then onwards to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50-metre-high cliff and surrounded by vineyards, is the home of the famous white wine, Zlahtina. Another peculiarity that Vrbnik has to offer is the second narrowest alley in the world. The way will lead you on across the island through old villages and rich vegetation to Omišalj, from where Rijeka will be within sight. On the way, you will have a chance to swim in the bay of Soline. You will spend the last night in Omišalj.
Sunday:
After breakfast you say good bye to the crew and the tour leader and disembark by 9am.
Subject to weather and sea conditions route changes may occur!!

Tour Rating - Moderate to hilly. A good level of fitness is required.

SOUTHERN DALMATIA
8 Day Escorted Tour
South Dalmatia is the smallest region of Croatia with the lowest number of inhabitants. On your cycling tour you pass unique small towns and flourishing island landscapes. You see the wonderful island Korcula with its picturesquely situated old town, the winegrowing peninsula Pelijesac and the island Mljet with its impressive national park. The islands of South Dalmatia are higher than those of the Kvarner Bay and Central Dalmatia, which means that the bike-tours offer beautiful and long descents (and admittedly also quite a few ascents). Our tour guide leads you through towns that are well worth exploring, such as Trogir, Split, Hvar and Korcula, almost all of which are protected as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Trogir – island of Split (approx. 20 km)
Individual arrival in the picturesque harbour of Trogir, (about 5 km away from Split Airport). After checking in on the motor yacht before 2 p.m., the ship will take you away from the mainland to the island of Split. Your first bike-tour in the afternoon leads you to the mountain Marjan, a recreation area of the inhabitants of the island. In the evening your tour guide will take you on a stroll through Split. Overnight stay.
Day 2: Cetina Canyon (approx. 40 km)
The ship will take you to the island of Omis. You will bike from Omis through the valley of the Cetina river, which has dug itself deep into the cliffs. On little side roads and through diverse land-scapes you cycle back to Omis, with its pirate castles. In the afternoon you will cross over to the island of Brac. There you have a swim break and an optional bike tour from Pucisca. You will explore hands-on the famous white marble of Brac, which was used for building the White House in Washington and the parliament building in Berlin.
Day 3: Island of Brac (approx. 45 km)
The tour starts with a long, but moderate climb to the ridge of the island, whereby you will pass countless mulberry, kiwi and fig trees, pinewoods, olive groves and vineyards. The descent to the beach in Bol with impressive panoramic views on the neighbouring island of Hvar makes the ascent worthwhile. After lunch, you undertake a longer cruise to the island of Korcula, where you will spend the night in the capital of the island, the town of Korcula, which challenges Venice for the honour of being the birth place of Marco Polo.
Day 4: Peninsula Pelješac and Mljet (approx. 40/60 km)
Peljesac with its towering, nearly 1.000 m high, mountain massive of Sv. Ilja has been the impres-sive backdrop for the last two days of the tour. The morning ascent above the sea takes you up through Dalmatia’s most famous winegrowing area, home to renowned wines such as Plavac and Dinga, on your way to Trstenik. In the afternoon you will travel by ship to the island of Mljet. The green island of Mljet is also known as the “island of honey”. In the 12th century the Benedictines established a monastery in this beautiful isolated place, surrounded by woods of pine and holm oak trees. The local pine forest is supposed to be the most beautiful of its kind in the whole Mediterranean. Ulysses is supposed to have spent seven years here. You will bike along the saltwater lake of the island, in which there is yet another small island.
Day 5: Island of Korcula (approx. 45 km)
The peace and isolation of the copious gardens with large cypresses characterises the image of this arguably most beautiful Dalmatian island. You will cycle along the 12 km long costal road to Racisce, where you have lunch. After pedalling the short distance to Pupnat, you continue on the old 200 m high mountain pass route above the bay of Pupnat to Blato. This town is built on seven hills like Rome. A night in the safe harbour of Vela Luka.
Day 6: Island of Hvar (approx. 25 km)
After your arrival in the harbour of Hvar, you take a interesting city tour. You pass its large Ren-aissance square with the cathedral which is surrounded by many late gothic palaces. You can visit the historically important Spanish fortress, the cathedral and the old theatre.
During today's bike tour you will pass small island villages with picturesque stone houses, aligned like pearls on a chain. You reach the end of the bike-tour, the historical town of Stari Grad, on the nearly traffic-free mountain pass route.
Day 7: Island of Solta (approx. 30 km)
Cruise to the island of Solta. On your last bike-tour you will see fields surrounded by ancient stone walls as well as numerous olive, fig and carob trees. The lavender and rosemary shrubs give the island its specific fragrance. In Maslinica you load your bikes onto the ship and enjoy the last crossing back to Trogir.
Day 8: Trogir
Departure by 9.00am

The nearest airport is Split, 10 minutes by taxi from the dock in Trogir (approx. $25)

ISLANDS OF CENTRAL DALMATIA
8 Day Escorted Tour
Island-hopping in Central Dalmatia is our 'green' tour. The breathtaking beauty of the landscape is what makes this trip truly worthwhile. The islands are generally thinly populated, and apart from Trogir and Zadar, we will not be visiting any larger towns. The ship will be sailing up the Krka River as far as the waterfalls and into the National Park of Krka. South of the island Dugi Otok we will be sailing through the National Park of Kornati, where numerous small islands are located side by side.
|

Here the Krka River winds its way for the first 10 km through flat land, for another 40 km through deep ravines and for the last 20 km through lakes connected to the sea. Before dinner you then continue by boat to Sibenik. The cathedral of St. Jacob is the most famous building in town and part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage site. On no account should you miss a visit.
