CLASSIC RHINE CYCLE PATH

7 day Independent tours

Hot springs and spas attracted the ancient Romans to the Rhine. Today vineyards, castles and picturesque towns add to the region's charm and attract cyclists from all over the world (like us).

This classic route starts in Mainz (near Frankfurt), and finishes downriver at the cathedral city of Cologne.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Mainz

Arrive in Mainz today. Free evening to enjoy this medieval city. Collect your rental bikes and tour information this evening.

Day 2: Mainz - Rüdesheim (approx. 35 km)
The first stretch of the journey on the Rhine cycle path leisurely takes you through a wonderful landscape. A short detour to the wine, sparkling wine and rose town of Eltville is worthwhile. The oldest town in the Rheingau region awaits you with its colourful framework houses and romantic rose gardens. The abbey Eberbach is one of the most important cultural monuments in Germany. The history of the abbey reaches back to the 12th century and manifests itself in the splendid architectural features.

Day 3: Rüdesheim - St. Goar (approx. 38 km)
Steeped in legend, romantic, uniquely beautiful - these are how fascinated visitors described our next destination. A slate rock which soars nearly vertically into the sky, 132 m above the Rhine in the Taunus region- this is the lexicon description. You may have realised this is an absolute highlight of our tour: the Loreley. The Rhine daughter has pulled boatmen into its spell for eternity. Today the mythical beauty fits perfectly into the romantic landscape of the region.

Day 4: St. Goar - Koblenz (approx. 36 km/52 km )
You continue along the Rhine Valley to Boppard, where you can take the chair lift up to quiet heights and wonderful views, or you take a detour by train (Hunsrückhöhenbahn) and reach the Moselle valley.

Day 5: Koblenz - Bad Godesberg (approx. 58 km/36 miles)
Today you have many choices: Spas, hot springs, wine growing villages and beer gardens waiting to spoil the biker. Or you may go down the Rhine by ship for a rest.

Day 6: Bad Godesberg - Cologne (approx. 43 km/27 miles)
If you want to visit the former capital of Germany, today is your chance to visit Bonn. The biking stretch is short today to give you enough time to visit the numerous architectural and historic sights of Cologne.

Day 7: Cologne
Individual departure or extend your stay in Germany.
